Last May, during my annual trip to Moab, Utah, I was last in line in a group of 5 Jeeps
heading up the Hell's Gate obstacle on the Hell's Revenge trail. I was about half way up
the gate when my rear tire slipped off the wall and sent my front end shooting almost
straight up. I immediately backed off the throttle to keep from going over backwards and
rolling to the bottom. When the Jeep settled into place, I found my self at a very awkward
angle and wedged into the rock wall. There was no way to drive out of the situation
without sending the front end back up into the air with the danger of going over
backwards. We first tried man power and snatch straps, but quickly realized that was
not going to do the trick. My trusty Warn winch came to the rescue. We attached the winch
cable to another Jeep at the top of the gate and were able to pull my Jeep off the rock
wall far enough so I could drive the rest of the way up the gate. My Jeep suffered a little
rock rash, but if it wasn't for my Warn winch, it may have rolled down Hell's Gate and
been a total loss.
