Warn Industries - Off-road enthusiasts in the least likely places

Off-road enthusiasts in the least likely places

Sometimes you'll find off-road enthusiasts in the least likely of places, which I discovered while on vacation last week.

My wife and I road tripped it to Northern California for a change of scenery and some R&R. A friend of ours had recommended we stop and try the wines at Simi Winery in Healdsburg, CA, so on Friday we did just that. We walk in, begin trying some wine, and start a conversation with the woman working the tasting room. In conversation, she mentioned she had a 1991 Jeep Wrangler. Immediately, my ears perk up. I mention that I work in the off-road industry, and she starts talking about her little red Jeep, and how she and her husband use it to tow their dirt bikes to go riding, and how she used to be part of a Jeep club in Santa Rosa, CA. That's pretty cool. My wife later told me the woman also used to race endurance motorcycles. That's pretty cool.

Another woman behind the counter had overheard our conversation and came over to us and says she's got a Jeep, too and asks if I'm familiar with the Rubicon Trail. It turns out this woman and her husband are part of a local Jeep club, she has a 1970s Jeep CJ-5, and is a wheeler (and yes, she's the driver). Next thing you know, we're pulling out our phones and sharing photos of our Jeeps, other 4x4s, and stories from the trail.

I would've never thought that going into a winery in California would've turned into a discussion about wheeling! It proves that off-road enthusiasts can be found anywhere, and never to judge a book by its cover.

The wine at Simi was very good as was the conversation. Maybe we'll cross paths again, maybe even on the trails.

Have you ever had an experience where you're somewhere and suddenly you find out the people you're talking to are off-road enthusiasts? If so, let's hear about it!
